As we come to the end of 2019 and about to enter a new decade, who are the women that have inspired us in 2019?

I find the word ‘heroine’ tricky... majority of my heroines have been long-standing friends or family members, who have inspired and impacted on my life.
in 2019 I worked with many females who inspired me, particularly El, which in someways led to the development of this course!
Physical Fest was a wonderful time to celebrate and showcase some powerful and dynamic females; Rowena Gander stood out to me as one such female. Strong, challenging perception of gender and sexuality as well as being phenomenally talented!
One of my focuses in 2019 was class and how this impacts on opportunities, particularly for females, and the playwright, Cash Carraway, is one female who stood out and I would tentatively call a heroine of 2019.
The playwright
Cash Carraway, 38, is an award-winning playwright and author of Skint Estate, her memoir of being a working-class woman below the poverty line in modern Britain. Her play, Refuge Woman – about state violence and poverty porn – was nominated for Best Innovation at the British Journalism Awards in 2018.
